Please read these terms and conditions carefully before accessing the Anglophone Literary Studies Blog (https://blogs.phil.hhu.de/anglophoneliteratures/), operated by lecturers at the Anglistik V department of the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. Once you use the blog, the automatic assumption will be that you have read our terms and conditions and are aware of your rights and obligations.
By registering and posting in this blog, you agree to the following terms and conditions.:
Before you start
- You have read the data protection declaration and agree with the way in which your data will be processed.
- You are aware that your blog posts and username will be publicly visible (though you are allowed to choose a pseudonym for your account).
- You are aware that your blog post will be advertised on Twitter and similar venues and may thus attract outside comments. If you receive comments that are in any way offensive or insulting, you should contact the blog’s current curators immediately and ask for them to be removed rather than engage with the commenter (“Feeding the troll is not encouraged here.”)
- The textual material uploaded by contributors may be quoted elsewhere as long as the original creators are accurately cited.
- Visual and audio-visual material may be uploaded as Creative Commons materials; however, this is entirely the decision of the individual creators, who are therefore also responsible for clearly stating what kind of licence their material falls under. Praxismodul students will receive the respective instructions as part of their course.
- Commenters (both registered and otherwise) are advised that rudeness, harassment, racism, sexism, transphobia, and any other unwelcome behaviour will not be tolerated and your comments may be deleted at our discretion.
- Commenters are, of course, welcome to contribute constructive criticism, but must refrain from personal attacks and unreasonable aggression. If you find that a post on this blog is in some way problematic and offensive, please be aware that this is an academic student blog and assume ignorance rather than malevolence. We are trying our best and are happy to learn and improve – criticism will be taken seriously, but we will not allow bad-faith attacks on our students and lecturers.
Using the Blog
- Only students and lecturers from the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf can register and participate in this blog project as active contributors. However, we do encourage diverse readers to engage with our output and let us know via the comment function what you think!
- Students who are interested in contributing a blog post but are not a part of any course that uses this blog ought to contact: australianprojectnrw@gmail.com
- Lecturers who are interested in incorporating this blog as part of their courses, either obligatory or voluntary, ought to contact: australianprojectnrw@gmail.com. Please be aware that you will be expected to monitor your own students’ output and will therefore be given at least Moderator rights and abilities.
- Students who are taking part in the Praxismodul “Blogging the Australian Fantastic” will have to register and take part in the blog project. The number of required blog posts will be broadcast in class.
- Praxismodul students will gain their BN (Beteiligungsnachweis) if they have adequately participated in the project, that is, they will have taken part in the affiliated course. They will have posted drafts of their blog posts in the private ILIAS server and both received and implemented peer feedback. They will also have given feedback to other students’ blog posts. Blog posts will not be graded, but are still expected to maintain a certain academic standard.
Contributing Blog Posts, Video Clips and Podcasts
- If you do contribute a blog post to this blog, you agree to having your blog post be made public and widely available to readers worldwide.
- You are responsible for ensuring that your blog posts do not contain any copyrighted material and that anything you quote is cited correctly and thus protected as academic writing.
- You will ensure that your blog post does not contain any glorification of violence as well as no racist, sexist, transphobic, queerphobic or otherwise offensive content. Due to the nature of our blog, you may, of course, such content as it occurs in the texts we study, but as in any term paper, you should be mindful of how you treat such issues and how you make clear that you are quoting potentially ‘problematic’ passages to deconstruct them rather than promote them.
- Posting blog posts is a requirement for the Praxismodul course “Blogging the Australian Fantastic”, though there are other Praxismodule available for HHU students.
- Posting podcasts and videos is not a requirement, though we are happy to provide students with an opportunity to do so.
- By posting a podcast or a video, you agree to having your voice and image being visible on this blog and thus available to all potential listeners and viewers. You may decide yourself whether to post your (audio-)visual material under a Creative Commons Licence and thus make it available for Open Educational Resources or whether you would like to publish under a more restrictive licence.
- You will retain your copyright of all material posted to this website and may demand your blog posts to be removed at any point after your course has ended (though we encourage you to keep them up as part of your online resumé). If you wish for your material to be removed, please contact us at: australianprojectnrw@gmail.com
