This page hosts a dataset of 100 Konkomba folktales (from Ghana) that were documented and used as primary data for a PhD project at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf. Some of the tales have also been encoded and subtitled within the context of the “Demarginalising Orature” project hosted on this site by the Centre for Translation Studies Düsseldorf. However, the current page seeks to provide access to all the raw data that was used in the PhD dissertation and the “Demarginalising Orature” project. It also seeks, through the collection of tales here, to preserve these oral materials and grant a wider audience, especially academics and other researchers, access to them to enable further qualitative research into primary orature such as these folktales.
The tales were recorded between 2019 and 2022 by the PhD researcher, E. Tasun Tidorchibe, during fieldwork in various Konkomba communities in Chamba and the Saboba district of Ghana. See the list below for all the folktales.
